Haka Lodge Auckland is a 3-star hotel known for its friendly staff and accommodating service. The hotel is highly praised for its cleanliness, although some guests have suggested improvements in cleaning the duvet covers and addressing the appearance of mold in the showers' overhead cover. Despite these minor concerns, guests have reported feeling safe and comfortable during their stay, with a welcoming common room area and comfortable beds. One notable feature is the accessibility of the kitchen, which remains partially open overnight, allowing guests to use the microwave during late hours. Situated in a convenient location, Haka Lodge Auckland is within close proximity to city hotspots and easily accessible via public transit. While some noise from the outside environment can be expected, overall, the hotel offers a pleasant and mature atmosphere. Although there have been rare incidents, such as the overbooking of a room and difficulties in contacting the 'emergency' number, the staff at Haka Lodge Auckland is generally friendly and helpful. Overall, the hotel provides a pleasant experience and is likely to be a preferred choice for future stays in the city.

Very convenient location close to town centre. Reasonably priced. Staff are very helpful and friendly and hostel is well-cleaned and taken care of. Beds are comfortable with curtains and a night light for privacy. Most people who stay are fairly chilled, not lots of loud partying late into the night. Only downside is that the bigger dormitories are near to a noisy street, but I wore earplugs and this was fine.
Great hostel! Lots of space in the kitchen and lounge area. The staff are friendly. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Unfortunately, it’s a great hostel in a terrible area. We left a night early (non refundable). There were 3 police outside our room the last night, constant yelling and arguing, broken glass, half dressed women screaming in the street, and music until 4am. We never slept. We’ve stayed in multiple hostels above bars, but nothing compared to this volume and bass. It felt unsafe going outside morning, afternoon, and night. There are so many visibly intoxicated and cracked out people constantly outside. We almost ubered to our car in the garage a 10 minute walk away (and terrified our car would be broken into after reading reviews) because we didn’t want to walk down the street with our luggage. It’s an unfortunate situation for this place.
The hostel is a disaster wherever you look at it.
I was hosted twice, due to price reasons one might believe that it is a good option, but:
It is dirty, the sheets have hair and the beds, being made of wood, have accumulated dirt from a long time.
In my second stay I was constantly bitten by mites in the bed. I couldn't rest and had to go to sleep on the couch.
Nobody took care of this, manager Nicholas Kosowatz did nothing but evade and make excuses by email. Currently and after 3 nights I still have bites and wounds from sleeping in the bed of this disgusting hostel. They never offered to return the money for the night nor did they ask how I was feeling, they only said that the staff inspected the bed and did not see anything (when mites are not usually seen and their wooden and dirty beds are a favorable space for this).
Here's a star, because you can't put less. And a warning to anyone thinking about going to this hostel not to do so.
The worst thing I've ever known.
Friendly staff, lovely common room and clean bathrooms. Queen St in walking distance. Beds have curtains for privacy, toilet room has a little donation shelf which I loved and kitchen got everything you need!
Very friendly staff and accommodating for my odd arrival and departure times. Cleaning often, but could do with cleaning duvet covers and appearance of mold in showers' overhead cover.
I felt safe, bed was comfortable, common room area inviting. Did not feel like a party hostel at all. Felt like guests were mature adults, not youngins that need to grow up.
Liked that the kitchen was not completely closed overnight. You can use the microwave in the overnight hours.
Area is close enough to go to city hot spots or easily catch transit. Can be loud outside.
I would stay here again. I'm actually sad I booked last minute and my preferred room wasn't available for my entire time in the city.
Great hostel, but reception closes at around 4/5pm. One night a room was overbooked and the ‘emergency’ number didn’t pick up for an hour… not reassuring.
Otherwise staff are nice, the people who stay there are quiet, but note the area is not a nice part of Auckland, many homeless or drunk people hanging around entrance.
This is not their fault but forward facing room ( female dorm ) faces a karaoke bar that goes to 2 am sometimes and loud arguments between the homeless downstairs cause be overheard and wake you up in the night.
Good beds, no squeaking, duvet covers could be cleaned a little more. But would stay here again.
When we just so happened to be here, there was loud Karaoke throughout the night, and was really hard to get a good sleep after arriving in Auckland that afternoon. Beds weren't fantastic, but for a backpackers hotel, they were alright.
So, if you can get to sleep really really easily - this is the place for you.
Really good hostel in the area of Ponsenby, which has some good bars and restaurants. There are good connections by bus to get to CBD, or just take a short walk.
The hostel itself is clean. The kitchen is tidy and a good place to meet other travellers, even though it didn‘t seem to be one of those stereotypical party hostels.
The best thing were the rooms: every bed has curtains, socket, light and even a small shelf. There was enough space to store luggage.
Would definitely recommend to go there if you plan to visit Auckland.
